Chicago based Fitness Formula Clubs Sponsors ALS Fund Raiser

May, 2008-Fitness Formula Clubs (FFC), a Chicago regional operator of upscale health and fitness centers, is teaming up with the Chicago MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) to sponsor one of MDA's largest fundraisers, “Clubs for the Cure”. Throughout the month of May, FFC is working with the local MDA chapter to raise funds for ALS, (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's disease. “Clubs for the Cure” began when a prominent fitness industry visionary, Augie Nieto, was diagnosed with ALS in 2005. Nieto, founder of LifeFitness® Equipment, formed Augie's Quest, (www.augiesquest.org), the year he was diagnosed, which supports the latest research for the cure for ALS.

FFC Founder & CEO Gale Landers has maintained a long-term relationship with Nieto while doing business with him for over twenty years. “Augie is a man with whom I did many early business transactions with on just a handshake, back in the days before e-mail and mandatory purchase orders,” said Landers. “We've all benefited from his life-long commitment to our industry, including the first piece of cardio equipment, the original LifeCycle”.

To help raise funds for ALS via Augie's Quest, Fitness Formula Clubs has put together a comprehensive promotional program throughout all nine Chicagoland Clubs (see www.ffc.com). An informative video featuring the ALS advocate Augie Nieto and his 'Quest for the Cure' will play at all FFC locations. Thursday, May 29 is the official “Clubs for the Cure” day, and all FFC locations will hold special fitness challenges, raffles, and spin classes to raise donations. All proceeds will benefit Augie's Quest.

Landers has announced that FFC is donating $25 of all new member joining fees during the month of May and is matching staff donations. Several staff personal trainers and group exercise instructors are donating hours of training and teaching time. “No one needs to feel compelled to give a lot. It just takes a lot of givers,” said Landers. “We're determined to make May 29th a milestone day for Augie's Quest. Lou Gehrig may have named the disease, but the cure will be named after Augie.”

To date, Augie's Quest has raised $14 million of their budgeted $18 million dollars. For more information, log onto www.clubsforthecure.com.
