Fitness Formula Clubs Raises $30,000 for ALS Research

July 1st, 2008

Chicagoland, Fitness Formula Clubs (FFC) teamed up with the local Chicago Muscular Dystrophy Association to sponsor one of MDA’s largest fundraisers, Clubs for the Cure. During the months of May and June FFC raised $30,000 in research funds for ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis known as Lou Gehrig’s disease).  FFC created special activities to encourage hundreds of Club member donations.  These included staff Personal Trainers and Massage Therapists who donated services matched financially by members; spin-a-thon type classes and other fitness events; and numerous raffle prizes provided by FFC vendors purchased by members. Additionally, FFC matched all staff financial contributions and donated $25 for each new member that joined an FFC location.

Clubs for the Cure began when a prominent fitness industry visionary, Augie Nieto, was diagnosed with ALS in 2005.  Nieto, founder of LifeFitness® Equipment, formed Augie’s Quest, (www.augiesquest.org), the year he was diagnosed, which supports the latest research for the cure for ALS.

Gale Landers, FFC Founder & CEO, appealed for mass participation from FFC Club members and staff.  “I’m elated with the results and our vendors were very generous sponsoring the raffle prizes” said Landers.  “I continue to be in touch with Augie, who extends his gratitude to all. Despite his physical ailments, his mind remains very sharp. He and his wife Lynne continue to lead and influence thousands of people in the quest for this cure.”

The goal for Augie’s Quest nationwide is $18 million with over $14.5 million raised to date.  For more information log on to www.ffc.com.

FFC Gold Coast Installs New ‘Green Roof’

June 2nd, 2008

Fitness Formula Clubs (FFC) Gold Coast at 1030 N. Clark Street, Chicago, IL, has installed a new ‘Green Roof & Sundeck”. FFC Gold Coast opened in 1994 as a 72,000 square foot fitness complex serving the near north and surrounding community. Amenities include an indoor running track, junior Olympic sized indoor pool, full size basketball court, Spa and lounge with flattering north, south, east and west views of the city skyline and Lake Michigan.

The 12,000 square foot Green Roof was designed by local award-winning Landscape Designer Christy Webber & Associates, whose work includes The Monroe Gardens at Millennium Park, McCormick Place landscaping, and Rancho Verde (a 12.5 acre green sustainable site and home of Webber’s headquarters on Chicago’s west side). Green roofs are becoming increasingly popular in urban locations as they are extremely versatile and assist in sustaining the environment. Significant indoor energy savings for heating and cooling can be realized because they provide protection from the sun, wind, heat, and cold. Green roofs can extend the life of a roof up to forty years. Additionally, green roofs lower surrounding air temperatures, reduce storm water runoff, and reduce noise due to their sound absorbing qualities.
